验光配镜 Refraction, Glasses and Contacts
Refraction and eyewear in Mandarin: “one or two?”, prescriptions the way patients say them, glasses, and safe contact lens care.
By the end of this module you can…
- Ask “one or two?” through a refraction, and put a nervous patient at ease: there are no wrong answers.
- Say a prescription the way patients do: −3.25 is 近视三百二十五度, with astigmatism and the reading add.
- Explain nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia in plain words.
- Talk through reading glasses, progressives and bifocals, the prescription slip and the pupillary distance.
- Teach a new wearer to put in, take out and care for contact lenses, and when to take them out and call.

- 一还是二，哪个更清楚？Yī hái shi èr, nǎ ge gèng qīng chu?One or two: which is clearer?
- 没有对错，觉得差不多就说“一样”。Méi yǒu duì cuò, jué de chà bu duō jiù shuō “yí yàng”.No wrong answers: if they look the same, say so.
- 请不要眯眼，正常看就好。Qǐng bú yào mī yǎn, zhèng cháng kàn jiù hǎo.Please don’t squint. Just look normally.
- 您的近视是三百二十五度。Nín de jìn shì shì sān bǎi èr shí wǔ dù.You’re nearsighted: 325 度 (−3.25).
- 最后的度数，医生会跟您确认。Zuì hòu de dù shù, yī shēng huì gēn nín què rèn.The doctor will confirm the final prescription.
- 老花镜只用来看近，戴着走路会模糊。Lǎo huā jìng zhǐ yòng lái kàn jìn, dài zhe zǒu lù huì mó hu.Readers are for close up only, not for walking.
- 我量一下您的瞳距，请看着里面的亮点。Wǒ liáng yí xià nín de tóng jù, qǐng kàn zhe lǐ miàn de liàng diǎn.Let me measure your PD: look at the light.
- 每次碰镜片之前，都要洗手、擦干。Měi cì pèng jìng piàn zhī qián, dōu yào xǐ shǒu, cā gān.Wash and dry your hands before touching lenses.
- 千万不要用自来水，也不要用口水。Qiān wàn bú yào yòng zì lái shuǐ, yě bú yào yòng kǒu shuǐ.Never tap water, never saliva.
- 眼睛红、疼，或者怕光，马上把隐形眼镜摘下来，先别再戴，当天给我们打电话。Yǎn jing hóng, téng, huò zhě pà guāng, mǎ shàng bǎ yǐn xíng yǎn jìng zhāi xià lai, xiān bié zài dài, dàng tiān gěi wǒ men dǎ diàn huà.Red, painful or light-sensitive eye: lenses out, leave them out, call us that day.
